Section R1001.7,1 Request to permit Installation of a listed top-sealing (lock-top) damper in lieu of a throat damper at the fireplace throat. A lister lock-top damper has been installed at the top of the chimney in place of a traditional throat damper. This configuration is requested as an approved equivalent because a throat damper at the fireplace opening would restrict proper access to the smoke chamber for hand parging and would interfere with proper Chimney cleaning and maintenance.

Building permit — alteration and repair
Chimney Repairs - 1st Floor Level - (9x13, 30') and Basement Chimney Repairs- (9x13, 40') 1.) Will need to extract and remove all of the ceramic tiles within the fireplace chimney from top to bottom. All trash and debris will be removed and disposed of properly from the property. Once the claim liners are completely removed, install a UL-listed stainless steel chimney liner system to be inserted down to the chamber area. 2) Once the chimney liner is in place, pour vermiculite insulation surrounding the chimney liner from bottom to top. 3) The Smoke Chamber area will be completely sealed by hand or spray system with a high heat fire resistant material to fill in all gaps to act as an insulator barrier to help increase airflow. 4) stainless steel chain handle dampers. An animal guard will be installed at the top of the chimneys.
