Building permit — addition alteration repair
I am proposing a full renovation and expansion of my existing 1.5-story cottage bungalow, which currently sits on a CMU foundation basement. The scope of work includes adding a full second story to replace the existing partial upper level, incorporating a new bedroom on the top floor. This will require new structural framing to support the additional floor. As part of this renovation, I will be removing the existing roof, replacing the trusses, and installing a flat TPO roofing system to enhance durability and weather resistance. Additionally, I will be constructing a 10' x 12' deck on the first floor as an exterior addition. Carlson Engineering has been hired as the structural engineering firm, and Studio Aria is overseeing the design for this project. The renovation aims to expand the living space, improve structural integrity, and modernize the home while maintaining compliance with local zoning and permitting regulations.

Building permit — alteration and repair
This project involves underpinning the existing basement foundation to achieve an additional one foot of headroom, increasing the interior height from approximately 72 inches to 82 inches.Underpinning will be performed in a 5-grid sequence, cutting and excavating 4-foot sections along the interior perimeter in accordance with the structural engineering drawings and details. Each section will be excavated, reinforced, and poured sequentially to maintain structural stability throughout the process.Following completion of underpinning, the interior basement slab will be re-poured and leveled to meet the new finished floor elevation. All work will conform to the approved structural plans and applicable building code requirements.

Published by the District as assessment data, separately from the permit record above, and current as of the District’s own assessment cycle rather than today. An assessment can lag construction by a cycle, so a property with a recently issued permit may still be assessed as it was before the work. Owner details are published by the jurisdiction but are deliberately not shown here.
These are the permits published by the jurisdictions listed above. A project usually depends on approvals from other agencies that publish nothing machine-readable — a forest conservation exemption, a well completion report, a sediment control or grading plan, a utility connection, a homeowners’ association sign-off. Their absence here is not evidence they were not required, and the gaps between the dates above are usually where they happened. Rows labelled “Issued” are ISSUED permits — Washington DC publishes an issue date and no project valuation at all. Records are grouped by normalised address text, so the same property may also appear upstream under a different spelling. Verify scope, dates, and contractor information with the issuing jurisdiction before bidding, quoting, or performing work.
