WASHINGTON, DC 20011 · DC — Ward 4
Building permit — variance
Pursuant to 12 DCMR Subsection 1208.2, request is made for a code modification to allow a lower ceiling clearance of 6' 3" in a special case where, structural limitations exist and where it poses no undue health or safety hazard to the occupants. The new structural alteration to open the existing exterior basement with a new addition underneath an existing addition requires a new structural beam that supports an existing metal I beam and another wood beam. The I beam is supported on the side of the new metal beam and the wood beam is supported on top of the new metal beam. The new beam has a rough opening of 6' 4" but with drywall and new flooring the clearance reduces to 6' 3". It would not be possible to meet the code without significant costly structural alterations.

Published by the District as assessment data, separately from the permit record above, and current as of the District’s own assessment cycle rather than today. An assessment can lag construction by a cycle, so a property with a recently issued permit may still be assessed as it was before the work. Owner details are published by the jurisdiction but are deliberately not shown here.
These are the permits published by the jurisdictions listed above. A project usually depends on approvals from other agencies that publish nothing machine-readable — a forest conservation exemption, a well completion report, a sediment control or grading plan, a utility connection, a homeowners’ association sign-off. Their absence here is not evidence they were not required, and the gaps between the dates above are usually where they happened. Rows labelled “Issued” are ISSUED permits — Washington DC publishes an issue date and no project valuation at all. Records are grouped by normalised address text, so the same property may also appear upstream under a different spelling. Verify scope, dates, and contractor information with the issuing jurisdiction before bidding, quoting, or performing work.
